Groundstrokes:

  1. Groundstrokes are the most used shots in tennis. If you have great groundstrokes then chances are you are going to go far in tennis. The following drillz will help you develop counsisten groundstrokes and they will also help you develope your shot making skills, for example hitting the ball down the line.
  • 1. Warm-up Drill:
  • -start by hitting vollies to each other
  • -move back to the service line and play mini-tennis (shown in Drill 1.1)
  • Drill 1.0 - Drill 1.1
  1. 2. Forehand Crosscourt:
  2. -just hit the ball from one corner, crosscourt to the other corner
  3. -if both players are right handed this would be a forehand drill for both players but in this case one player is left handed therefore he is hitting a backhand

  1. 3. Forehand Inside-Out:
  2. -hit from the left corner (if you are right handed) to the right corner on the other side
  3. -this is a good drill to practice running around the ball to hit a forehand as oppose to hitting a backhand
  4. Drill 3.0

 

  1. 4. Backhand Crosscourt:
  2. -same as number 1 except you are hitting backhand crosscourt shots

 

  1. 5. Forehand Down-the-Line:
  2. -you can practice hitting the ball down the singles line or you can try hitting the ball down the doubles alley (and trying to keep it in the alley)

 

  1. 6. Backhand Down-the-Line:
  2. -same as number 4 but you are hitting a backhand

 

  1. 7. Slice:
  2. -just practice slicing the ball
  3. -this also helps you get use to the wya the ball bounces when someone hits a slice to you
  4. -you can try this going down the line or crosscourt as well

 

  1. 8. X-Drill:
  2. -start by hitting a forehand down the line, your partner hits the ball crosscourt, you hit a backhand down the line and then you parnter hits another crosscourt shot which takes you back to the starting point
  3. -be sure to switch roles (ie: hit down the line shots and crosscourt shots)
  4. -see how many cycles you can do

 

  1. 9. Drop Ball Drill:
  2. -one player throws ball from side to side while the other player scrambles to hit the balls back

  • 10. Retrieving Lobs:
  • -the player at the net must chase a lob that has been hit by his or her partner
  • -the player should try to hit the ball with the racket between his or her legs
